The Communication and promotion plan

The Communication and Promotion Plan for the restoration project of the former Bourbon prison of Santo Stefano was conceived according to an innovative approach, which combines traditional information and media relations activities - including a media partnership with RAI - with structured editorial and cultural production activities.

The content produced is not merely informative, but is designed to become part of the cultural heritage of the future multicultural centre of Santo Stefano, contributing to the construction of a solid, layered and lasting narrative.

Contents of the Communication Plan

The Plan accompanies and recounts the various phases of the complex's restoration project, providing information on the progress of the work and, at the same time, disseminating the content that guides the future mission of Santo Stefano, in line with the feasibility study drawn up by Invitalia and the Masterplan developed by the group of experts.

The main guidelines are:

Restoring the collective memory the historical and human events that have marked the 170 years of the prison's existence, addressing issues such as human dignity, human rights, freedom of thought and the evolution of the concept of punishment, as well as prison architecture and culture.

Restoring historical events to collective memory and Promoting the ‘Scuola di alti pensieri' (School of High Thoughts, inspired by the vision of Eugenio Perucatti, former prison director, and the values of the Italian and European Constitutions, as a space for reflection on the future of Europe and the Mediterranean.

Partnerships

Partnerships are a central element of the Communication and Promotion Plan, as they are functional to the production of cultural and scientific content to be incorporated into the museum itinerary, documentation activities and future programming of the multicultural centre.

Through partnerships, relationships are established with institutions, universities, research centres and cultural entities which, once the restoration is complete, will contribute to the programming of high-profile educational activities and events, under the coordination of the future manager identified in a public participation foundation, currently being set up.

The partnerships have been organised into nine clusters:

  • historical exhibition itineraries, from the 18th century to the present day, with a focus on the evolution of human rights in Italy and Europe;
  • exhibitions on the themes of justice, criminal law and prison institutions;
  • environmental exhibitions dedicated to flora, fauna, terrestrial and marine ecosystems, migration and climate change;
  • study activities, residencies and conferences in Europe and the Mediterranean;
  • programmes aimed at the Next Gen EU with particular reference to European mobility and exchanges;
  • relations with European youth media;
  • narratives on prisons as physical and symbolic spaces.

The wealth represented by the plurality of partnerships will enable the future Foundation to attract a qualified audience interested in cultural tourism, research and training, promoting activities throughout the year - workshops, seminars, spring and autumn schools, schools - even outside the peak tourist seasons.
